Recent studies on rats have shown that long-term exposure to DEET can lead to memory loss.
Certainly, in doing so, DEET can be associated with many health problems such as damage to the immune and nervous system, itching, seizures, sperm mutation, and more. 8 deaths have been documented by the Register of toxic substances and diseases that are associated with DEET ingestion.
Also, US Agricultural Research Services have published a study showing that coconut oil has many properties that help eliminate insects.
Coconut oil contains a large number of fatty acids that can protect us from many types of insects. Also, coconut oil contains sodium lysine, which has antiviral and antibacterial properties.
Coconut oil mixed with essential oils such as cytenella, lavender and tea tree oil can have a greater effect on the removal of insects.
Try the following recipe for a variety of essential oils mixed with coconut oil:
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 4 tsp. beeswax granules
- 1/8 cup shea butter
- 8 drops cedarwood essential oil
- 8 drops rosemary essential oil
- 8 drops eucalyptus or tea tree essential oil
- 8 drops lemongrass essential oil
- 12 drops citronella essential oil
All you need to do: boil the water in a boiler. Then, mash the shea butter and coconut oil at low temperature, add the bee wax and mix them together. Then, to check the density, immerse a metal spoon in the liquid itself, and you can make the texture to your liking. If you like a soft mix, add more shea butter, and if you want to add more beewax to the firmer.
The whole mixture should be left for a few minutes to cool.
Then, let the whole mixture cool to room temperature, and then put it in jars. Also, for easy applications, keep the jars at room temperature.
