Not long ago, it has been scientifically looked into and it has been concluded that green potatoes are packed with huge quantities of solanine, and solanine is a toxic chemical that can cause diarrhea, throwing up, nausea, headaches and a lot of other illnesses, if ingested by mistake.
The large amount of chlorophyll is the main culprit for the vividcolor, and as we know by now, chlorophyll is practically harmless for our organism. However it is more like a sign that the amount of produced solanine, simultaneously with the chlorophyll, has increased as well.
A professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincon called Alexander Pavlista, claims that — a 100 pound man would need to ingest approximately 16 ounces of green potato to start feeling sick.
Additionally, he said that the green potatoes were never meant for sale at the market. This is why it is a known fact that the most favorable place for storing potatoes is in a cool place with a dim light in order to prevent the production of solanine, and to remove the green areas before it’s consumed.
If the taste of the green potato happens to be bitter, you should immediately throw it in the trash and don’t dare to consume it. This green product has been proven harmful in many cases, so just stay away from it.
